With President Nelson's announcement today of new temples in Cuernavaca, Morelos; Pachuca, Hidalgo; Tula, Hidalgo; and Toluca, Estado de Mexico; there are now 22 temples in operation, under construction, or announced for Mesoamerica, the region where the major events of the Book of Mormon likely took place.

The Guatemala City Miraflores Temple, announced in October 2020, will be right in the middle of the ancient archaeological site of Kaminaljuyu, a leading candidate for the Book of Mormon city of Nephi.
